Our sign is finally up!

I had Visovi Signs and Graphics make our sign a while ago… I didn’t put it up since our contractor was doing a lot of work on our house. When all that was done, I finally put it up on our gate.

We have a home studio, so I wanted people to know about our business, yet didn’t want the sign to be out of place since this is a residential area. So I asked them to make it look like a street sign and I love it! I already had a few compliments, too.

Small Business Saturday!

I am one of those people who hate shopping at big stores after Thanksgiving day. I Also don’t think savings are that great on a lot of things since stores raise prices before the sale and say they are 50% off or whatever…

So tomorrow, I am going to walk to little stores in my neighborhood to shop. I would rather support small businesses around us. One of my favorite shops is Red Square. It is a bit away from downtown San Mateo, so it is not very visible, but it is a hidden gem.
The owner herself is a designer, but she also sells clothing by other local designers, so they have unique clothing for women, men and children. It is a great time to go there to get your holiday dress that is different from other dresses from big department stores or big box stores.

Some dresses they have and they have a lot more!

A bit more casual dresses that can work for both holiday parties and just a lunch date.

She also runs sewing classes for kids, called Camp Couture. Perfect after school activity for creative children.

They are at 1628 Palm Ave, San Mateo, CA 94402

Did you get to see the solar eclipse on Sunday?
A friend of ours gave us a pair of glasses, so we used that to see what’s happening. We didn’t really prepare to shoot the solar eclipse, but we happened to have a polarizer, so we decided to photograph the eclipse with that.
We used Canon 7D with 70-200mm lens. Our setup was 200mm, f/32, 1/8000s and ISO100.
So here is a photo at the beginning and the middle. Since we are in California, we could not see the ‘ring’… I think you had to be in Oregon.

Also, big trees with lots of leaves are acting as millions of pin hole cameras, so the shadows on our neighbor’s house were all shaped in eclipse. How fun!

I just got a new photo prop, so I thought I will test with my dog, Mochi. He is a reluctant, but good model. I am not even holding a treat. All I have to say is “ducky?” He knows it means “duck jerky”. Then he can be very attentive. Yes, he did get a duck jerky in the end.
