Happy Thanksgiving!

Please make sure your dogs are safe during Thanksgiving dinner/weekend. Cooked turkey bones are dangerous for them. While sugar may not kill them right away, they are not good for them. If you really want to share the festivities, your dogs can have unseasoned turkey meat, plain cooked pumpkin, sweet yum or potatoes. Maybe you have lots of fruits to share. Grapes and raisins are bad for dogs, but apples, pears, bananas and a bit of strawberries are fine for them. Chocolates are also very bad or even dangerous for them.

Pet-safe weed killer

November 23rd, 2009 | Posted by Photographer in All posts | Pets - (0 Comments)

A lot of weeds grow between tiles in our back yard and front yard, but it is hard to pull them out and cannot use harsh chemicals to kill them. I looked around and found a recipe for a natural weed killer with white vinegar and some other things, but I found out vinegar alone work just fine. I poured white vinegar on weeds one day and they were dead in a couple of days. But vinegar doens not just kill weeds. It will also kill plants you want. So you have to be carefull not to pour it on your flowers. It does smell like vinegar for a few days, but I like the fact I don’t have to worry about Mochi. If anything, he hates the smell of the vinegar.

Raw food

raw

A vet at Coastal Holistic said Mochi is lacking calcium, so I should give him some bones. She mentioned there is a ground meet for dogs and it has ground up bones and organs dogs need. Also, chewing bones would be good for his teeth. So I went to Pawtrero Hill Bathhouse and Feed in Potrero Hill to buy raw and frozen Chicken neck bones and ground meet. I was going to cook the ground meet with veges, but sometimes there are bigger pieces of bones in there, so it is safer to feed him raw.
So I started out mixing a bit of the raw meet into his regular home cooked meal. After about a week, I totally switched to raw meet and cooked vege without brown rice as the vet recommended. The meet I bought was only $4 for 2LB, which is same or cheaper than meet I was buying to make his food.
I also add muti-vitamin for dogs and salmon oil for his dry skin.
As for raw chicken neck bones… I only let him eat that in our back yard.
His breath smells much better also, so I think bones are cleaning his teeth as our vet mentioned. I used to give him greenies and dental chews everyday, and brushed his teeth a couple times a week, but his breath smelled bad. It is much better now only after a week.
